Timothy Post, Psy. Dippsych
Clinical Psychologist He/Him | Lawrence, Kansas
I am a clinical psychologist, licensed in Kansas, with over 35 years of experience in a variety of settings and with a wide range of issues. Most of my work has been in providing individual psychotherapy and psychological testing, mostly with adults and adolescents. An area of special interest is psychotherapy for more severe mental health issues, such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder. I also have substantial experience in the treatment of substance use disorders. Following graduate school in clinical psychology (M.S. from Emporia State University and Psy.D. from Forest Institute of Professional Psychology) and internship at Central State Hospital in Oklahoma, I had several years of training in psychodynamic psychotherapy from the Oklahoma Society of Psychoanalytic Studies/Psychoanalytic Institute of Northern California, the Greater Kansas City Psychoanalytic Institute, and the International Psychotherapy Institute. In addition to my clinical experience, I have taught at the undergraduate and graduate levels and have supervised graduate students and interns in clinical and counseling psychology, as well as candidates for professional licensure.
My basic approach to therapy is psychodynamic as I believe that all problems and symptoms have meaning and adaptive function. However, I also make use of cognitive & behavioral approaches when appropriate. I also see all people, regardless of diagnosis, as having the same basic needs and struggles. Most of our problems are the result of attempts at security and happiness gone wrong. Humans have an inherent tendency toward health and stability, and much of therapy consists of understanding and decreasing internal and external impediments to that tendency.
